From idea to factory: turning your invention into a product
The road from idea to a product on the shelf is long, but clear when you split it into stages.
1. Validate the idea
- Talk to at least 10 potential users
- Know competing products and their prices
- State what makes yours different in one sentence
2. Build a prototype
Start with a simple model that shows the idea, then one that actually works. 3D printing, labs and workshops save time and cost at this stage.
3. Test with real users
- Write a test plan: what, with whom, and how you measure success
- Record results and changes after each round
- Repeat until the design is stable
4. Design for manufacturing
A design that works in the workshop isn't always easy to make at scale. Review materials, process and part count with an engineer or factory before production.
5. Choose the right factory
- Get quotes from more than one factory
- Ask about minimum order quantity and lead time
- Request samples before the first batch
- Protect your designs with an NDA before sharing
6. Quality and conformity
Some products need conformity certificates before sale in the UAE. Check your product's requirements with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology before mass production.
7. Launch
Start small, listen to your first customers, then scale. On Inov71 you track every stage in one project, with a supplier directory, an equipment hub and an AI assistant that maps your tasks.
This guide is general information. Requirements vary by product, so always check with the relevant official authorities.
